Summer Fun at Your Fingertips at the Frisco Bay Marina

When you think of the Rocky Mountains (unless you live here) you most likely picture in your head a winter paradise that never ends. Well, after this year’s 450-plus inches of snow, this seems to ring true, but luckily for us, summertime in the Rockies is what keeps us going for the rest of the year.

With a plethora of infamous Colorado “blue-bird” days and a balmy 74-degree average temperature, the summer months offer ample opportunities to get out and enjoy the fresh air in the high country. Once such place for summer fun just so happens to be a short walk from our Frisco bed and breakfast – the Frisco Bay Marina equipped with its endless amount of water activities to make you forget that your are nestled in between the peaks of the majestic Rocky Mountains (not really, but you get the gist). And, even more noteworthy, as of this week the reservoir is completely melted and will be fully operational as of Saturday, May 24, 2014.

Just a hop, skip and a jump from the Frisco Lodge, the full-service Frisco Bay Marina is located on the shores of the scenic Dillon Reservoir in the heart of Summit County. At 9,017 feet in elevation and with 3,300 acres and 25 miles of shoreline, the marina offers a little something for everyone. Some of the offerings available are; canoe & kayak rentals, powerboat rentals, sailboat rentals & tours, paddleboat rentals, stand up paddle board rentals, fishing pole rentals, a park with kids playground (perfect for picnics), a full retail store and the Island Grill at Frisco Bay.

If you are feeling especially frisky, take the 20-minute ride on the Lake Dillon Water Taxi over to the sister marina – the Dillon Marina – and sidle up at Pug Ryan’s Lakeside Tiki Bar for the high country’s only lakeside dining experience at almost 2 miles above sea level.

If you’re planning your visit at the end of the month, be sure to check out “The Rock the Dock Party” on Saturday, May 31st to officially celebrate the opening of the marina. The perfect way to spend a spring or summer day in the high country, the Rock The Dock Party will feature fun times, giveaways and music to dance to (Funky Johnson) all in one neat and tidy package.

If you are looking to the future, other events to add to your calendar include the Run the Rockies road half marathon (June 7), the Frisco BBQ Challenge (June 12-15), the National Marina Day Celebration (June 14), and the Timberline Cruiser Regatta (June 21).

So, book your reservation with the Frisco Lodge today and open up a world of water fun right at your fingertips!
